A win and a tie for Midget AAs


Players from the Bantam Bruins and the Regina Silver Foxes try to find the loose puck during a game on January 19.

The Estevan Apex Midget AA Bruins had a tie and a win in their most recent action in league play.

Blaine Herzberg scored twice in the Bruins' 4-4 tie with the Notre Dame Hounds on January 18. Marc Shaw and Tanner Jeannot also scored for Estevan.

Levi Eiteneier was in goal.

Herzberg had his second straight two-goal game in Estevan's 5-3 win over the Regina Flames. Herzberg scored twice in the second period to erase a 2-0 Flames' advantage. The Flames scored again to lead 3-2 after two periods, but Shaw, Jeannot and Kyle Salaway scored for Estevan in the third.

Tanner Tytlandsvik was the winning goalie.

Estevan's record is 11-7-6. They'll host the Regina Capitals on January 26 at 4 p.m. and the Swift Current Hurricanes on January 27 at 2:45 p.m. Both games will be at Spectra Place.

The Estevan TS&M Bantam AA Bruins tied the Weyburn Wings 3-3 on January 18 and lost 7-3 to the Regina Silver Foxes the following night.

Jayden Davis' goal with less than six minutes to play in the third tied the game against Weyburn, and earned the bantams a point. Cole Skjonsby and Mitchell Morrison had Estevan's other goals.

Carter Phair was in goal against Weyburn.

Colton Winton scored 29 seconds into the game against Regina, but the Silver Foxes had the next five markers.

JJ Holma and Matthew Bill were Estevan's other goal scorers.

Cameron Lavoie was the starting goalie.

Estevan's record is 7-10-3 in league play. They'll visit the Humboldt Broncos on January 25, the Sask. Valley Vipers on the 26th and the North East Wolfpack on the 27th.

The Estevan Sherritt Coal Peewee AA Bruins split home games against the Melville Millionaires, losing 7-4 on January 19 but recovering to win 4-3 on January 20.

Cole Fonstad had Estevan's first three goals in the loss to Melville. JD Gervais was the other goal scorer. Melville scored three times in 1:40 in the third to break open a 4-4 game.

Carson Benning scored twice, including the game winner with 42 seconds remaining in the third, in Estevan's win over Melville. Fonstad and Hayden Cutler also scored.

Cody Levesque was in goal for both games.

Estevan also opened their best-of-three, second round provincial series against the Yorkton Terriers with a game January 23 in Estevan. (Results were not available at press time).

The peewees' record is 5-9-1 in league play.

The Estevan Gem Well Atom AA Bruins went 2-3 at the George Watson Regina Atom AA Hockey Classic January 18 to 20.

Estevan opened with a 7-0 win over the Regina Sabres. Seven different players scored for Estevan: Josh Romanyk, Ben Wagstaff, Alex Von Sprecken, Austin Fleck, Cale Adams, Chase Gedak and Reid Waldegger.

But they dropped their next two games: 4-2 to the Regina Avalanche and 5-1 to the Saskatoon Wild Lightning. Austin Fleck and Kaiden Tuchscherer were the goal scorers against the Avalanche. Parker Bell had the lone goal against Saskatoon.

The Bruins responded with a 5-1 win over the Prairie Storm Lightning. Romanyk, Von Sprecken, Bell, Easton Robitaille and Ethan Bill each scored once.

Estevan closed out the tournament with a 7-3 loss to The Pas Huskies. Robitaille, Bell and von Sprecken scored for Estevan.

Layne Gilroy was in goal for all five games.

Estevan's next game is January 26 against Weyburn at 1:15 p.m.
