Teams advance to men's southerns
The field is now set for the SaskTel Southern Men's Playdowns that will be taking place at the Estevan Curling Club from January 17 to 20.
Three teams from southeast Saskatchewan advanced to southerns thanks to their results at the regional qualifier in Lampman on January 11 and 12. Jason Krupski from Whitewood won the A event, Brent Gedak from Estevan won the B event and Mark Walter from Lampman won the C event.
Gedak captured the A event at southerns last year.
Among the other notable teams entered in southerns are former provincial champion Joel Jordison of Moose Jaw, and frequent provincial tankard contender Jeff Hartung of Langenburg.
The other teams at southerns are: Clayton Wicks and Reagan Hadden of Swift Current; Shaylor Layman of Lafleche; Jason Weal of Assiniboia; Wade Sydorko of Weyburn; Shawn Joyce of Moose Jaw; and Brock Virtue, Mike Eberle, Chris Busby, William Coutts and Clint Krismer of Regina.
A total of 16 teams will be in Estevan for southerns.
The opening draw will be at 1 p.m. on January 17. Opening ceremonies will be at 6 p.m., and another draw will follow at 7 p.m.
Draw times on January 18 are at 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The draws on January 19 are at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The A final will be at 4:30, and the B finals are at 8:30.
The first draw on January 20 will be at 9:30 a.m., and the final draw, which includes the C finals, are at 2 p.m.
Five teams at southerns will advance to the SaskTel Tankard men's provincial curling championship that will be held in Assiniboia.
