The CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins will have to wait a little longer to play their first game after the SJHL's trade deadline.

The Bruins' game that had been scheduled for Friday night in North Battleford has been postponed due to weather conditions. The Bruins were unable to leave Estevan due to the snowstorm that has walloped southern Saskatchewan on Thursday and Friday.

It is hoped that the Bruins will be able to travel on Saturday. They would play the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday and the North Stars on Sunday.

The Bruins made a pair of deals involving future considerations with two teams from the U.S.

The first saw the Bruins reacquire forward Dylan Smith from the Eastern Junior Hockey League's Connecticut Oilers for future considerations. Smith spent three seasons with the Bruins, and led the team in scoring in 2009-10 and 2011-12.

He had 28 points in 25 games with Connecticut.

Bruins head coach/GM Keith Cassidy said he hadn't spoken with Smith until January 10, and at that time, Smith expressed an interest in returning to the Bruins.

Cassidy suspects that Smith wanted to return so that Smith could finish his junior career in Estevan.

"He has given a good part of his life to this community and to this team, and he's excited to be able to finish off here," said Cassidy.

Smith also fills an offensive void on the team, as the Bruins have struggled to score for much of this season.

The other trade saw the Bruins acquire defenceman Nick Egan from the EJHL's Philadelphia Revolution for future considerations. Egan has spent parts of three seasons with the Revolution, and spent part of last season with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

"He's a tougher, stay-at-home defenceman, and he plays with a bit of an edge, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other capabilities he has at this point," said Cassidy.

Egan was also the captain of his team in Philadelphia.

Cassidy expects that Smith will be in the line-up this weekend, if all the necessary paperwork is completed. Egan is slated to play Tuesday night in the Bruins home game against Notre Dame.

The club also released 20-year-old forward Nick Weiss. Cassidy said Weiss wasn't happy in Estevan, and there were teams interested in him. But Weiss didn't want to go to those teams, so the Bruins granted his release.
