The Midale Mustangs are clinging to a narrow lead atop the Big 6 Hockey League standings.
Midale (9-4-1) has 19 points, which is one more than the Bienfait Coalers (9-2). The Coalers have three games in hand.
The Mustangs moved into top spot with a 5-2 victory over the Oxbow Huskies on January 4, and a 10-2 rout of the Carnduff Red Devils on January 5. They were scheduled to host the Arcola-Kisbey Combines on January 9. (Results were not available at press time).
Bienfait has been idle since the Christmas break.
The Wawota Flyers (8-4) also won twice over the Arcola-Kisbey Combines – 5-2 on January 4 and 6-4 on January 5 – to move into third place. The Carnduff Red Devils (6-4-1) sit fourth; their most recent win was 6-5 over the Carlyle Cougars January 4.
The Redvers Rockets (5-5-1) sit fifth with 11 points, which is one more than Arcola-Kisbey (5-6). Oxbow (3-9-1) is seventh with seven points, and Carlyle (2-8-1) is eighth with five.
Three games are slated for January 11: Redvers at Bienfait, Oxbow at Carlyle and Carnduff at Arcola-Kisbey. All eight teams are scheduled to play January 12: Carnduff at Bienfait, Arcola-Kisbey at Redvers, Wawota at Midale and Carlyle at Oxbow.
Midale is scheduled to visit Redvers on January 16.
