Minor hockey wrap-up

The Estevan Apex Midget AA Bruins had a win and a loss in their final two games of 2012.

Estevan defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-2 on December 19. Kyle Salaway, Talys Halabuza, Steven Henderson and Marc Shaw scored by the seven-minute mark of the second period to give Estevan a 4-0 lead. Kaelan Holt also scored. Jolan Lingelbach had three assists.

Levi Eiteneier was in goal for the victory.

The Midget AA Bruins dropped a 7-4 decision against the Weyburn Red Wings on December 21. Tyson Price paced the offence with two goals and an assist. Kale Little and Riley Giblett also scored.

Tanner Tytlandsvik started in goal.

Estevan’s record is 9-7-4. They’ll visit the Lumsden-Bethune Lions on January 6 and the Weyburn Wings on January 8.

The Estevan TS&M Bantam AA Bruins defeated the host Prairie Storm 3-1 in a league game on December 21.

Peyton Stevenson and Kolten Ganson scored for Estevan in the first period. Ganson added his second of the game early in the second for a 3-0 lead. Estevan limited the Storm to just one goal from there.

Carter Phair was the winning goalie.

Estevan had a 7-8-1 record in league play prior to the Christmas break. They’ll visit the Regina Silver Foxes on January 4 and the Notre Dame Hounds on January 9.

The Estevan Blue Rock Junior Midget Bruins tied the Weyburn Avalanche 1-1 on December 21. Ryan Smith’s goal with 13 minutes to play in the game was the tying marker.

Brett Friess was in net.

Estevan’s record is 5-6-2. They’ll visit the Regina Capitals on January 4 and the Regina Wild on January 5.

The Estevan Baxter Midget Female Cougars won twice at home over the Regina Flames – 4-1 on December 21 and 7-2 on December 22.

Cassidy Siebert scored twice in the first victory over the Flames. Kaitlyn Dukart and Cheyenne Grant had the other goals. Estevan scored once in the first, twice in the second and once 24 seconds into the third to build a 4-0 lead.

Brianna Cote was the winning goalie.

The Cougars surrendered the first goal, then had seven unanswered goals in the 7-2 rout. Paige Collopy had two goals and an assist, and Hailey Dukart had a goal and two assists. Haley Ronyk, Cheyenne Grant, Brooklyn Dukart and Mackenzie Ronyk also scored.

Veronique Poirier was in goal for the victory.

The Cougars record is 7-3. They’ll visit the Flames on January 5 and the Regina Panthers on January 6.

The Estevan Power Dodge Chargers were the busiest team late in 2012, with three wins and a tie in a five-day span.

The Chargers tied their local rivals, the Estevan Dayman Trucking Bulldogs, 2-2 on December 19. Taylor Currie and Megan LeBlanc scored for the Chargers. Julia Sibley and Shania Taylor had the Bulldogs’ goals.

Taylor’s goal with 64 seconds to play in the second period was the tying goal. There wasn’t any scoring in the third.

Tamara Irwin was in goal for the Chargers, while Marcedes Singleton started for the Bulldogs.

The Chargers’ victories were 3-1 over the Wood River Ice Cats on December 21, 15-1 over the Regina Red Wings and 7-1 over the Regina Capitals.

Kailey McLellan and Teanna Michel scored in the first period to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead over the Ice Cats. Mariah McKersie’s goal in the second boosted the lead to 3-0. Wood River scored once in the third.

The Chargers had the game’s first 12 goals in the game against the Red Wings. McKersie had four goals and four assists, Michaella Matthies had four goals and three assists, McLellan scored three times and LeBlanc added a goal and two assists. Rachel Mack, Kamryn Friers and Ashton Magotaux also scored.

Matthies and McKersie each had two goals and an assist, while McLellan scored twice in the win over the Capitals. Mack also scored.

Irwin was in goal for all three wins.

The Chargers’ record is 14-1-2. They’ll host the Red Wings on January 12.
