Poppy campaign about to begin

The Estevan Royal Canadian Legion is hoping that people will support their annual poppy campaign, and wear a poppy prior to Remembrance Day.

The poppy campaign is expected to begin around October 29, said campaign chair Judy Jahn. Trays filled with poppies will be placed at businesses and offices throughout the community. People who pick up a poppy are asked to place a donation in the change box attached to the trays.

There are a lot of new businesses in the community that will have poppy trays this year, Jahn said.

The poppy trays will remain at the locations until just before Remembrance Day on November 11.

Jahn said that last year’s poppy campaign raised about $27,000 through poppy sales and donations. The money will be directed to the Legion, to support veterans and to help out the Legion’s projects in the community.
