The RCMP has laid charges in connection with the fatal collision that occurred in August near Midale.

Regina's Keith Dunford, 44, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, for the August 24 accident that killed 18-year-old Ashley Dawn Richards.

Richards had recently moved from New Brunswick to join her boyfriend in southeast Saskatchewan, and the accident occurred during her first day on the job. She was working as a contractor in a construction zone on Highway 39 northwest of Midale when she was struck by a northbound SUV, allegedly driven by Dunford.

The tragic accident resulted in the Ministry of Highways, the RCMP and other organizations issuing reminders for motorists to slow down when passing highway construction workers. The speed limit in highway construction sites is 60 kilometres per hour.

Dunford was arrested at the scene of the accident and taken into custody. Charges were laid on October 22.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on October 23 at the Weyburn Provincial Court.
