Marguerite Gallaway's long-time commitment to the arts, not only locally but provincially, has earned her a couple more prestigious honours.

Gallaway was inducted into the Wall of Honour for the University of Saskatchewan's College of Education on October 13. Five people were selected to join the Wall of Honour this year.

"It's actually a digital wall," said Gallaway. "Your actual photo will be up there, on the actual wall, for a year. And then it will be recorded, and they have this area where you can go press buttons, and view anybody's profile, for the next 100 years."

Gallaway said it was quite overwhelming to see the campus now compared with how it was when she attended the school. The Wall of Honour ceremony was held in the College of Education Library, which is four times larger than the university library when she was a student.

Gallaway spent a couple years teaching at the Estevan Collegiate Institute after she graduated from the university. She married her husband, Ron, started a family and did some volunteer work, before eventually shifting to a career with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.

She started the Stars for Saskatchewan concert series, helped form 55 arts councils in communities across the province, travelled throughout Saskatchewan promoting the arts, set up tours for prominent musicians, and conducted workshops through the Canada Council for the Arts.

"Getting the honours that I have, have been a bonus, and I very much appreciate them, and I am honoured, but you never do something that's a mission because you expect to get honours," said Gallaway.

This isn't the first time that Gallaway has been honoured by her alma mater; she was presented with an honourary doctorate a few years ago.

The Wall of Honour came a few weeks after Gallaway was presented with a Queen's Diamond Jubilee honour in Regina. Gallaway was applauded during the medal ceremony for spreading the arts across the province, and making sure that people in rural communities have access to arts and culture.

She continues to be active in the arts locally through the Estevan Arts Council and other avenues.
