The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum is introducing a new fundraiser this year – one that will celebrate a deceased Estevan resident who made a significant contribution to Canada's arts community.

The EAGM will be auctioning off some of its Andrew King show prints on Saturday, October 20 at the EAGM. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the auction begins an hour later. About half the tickets for the event are still available.
Director/curator Amber Andersen said the auction will help the EAGM promote and maintain its King collection, which boasts around 200 items.

“We actually the largest collection of his posters and wood block prints in Canada,” said Andersen.

At the event, there will be a live auction and a silent auction. Carnival-inspired appetizers will be served, which is fitting, since King was renowned for his ability to create posters for circuses and travelling fairs.

The EAGM will also unveil a publication that they have been working on that documents King’s life and his works.

Seventeen items will be included in the live auction, and four or five more will be in the silent auction.

“The posters that we have chosen are ones that we have duplicates or triplicates of, so we are not auctioning off anything that we don’t have another one of,” said Andersen.

Everything that will be auctioned off is currently on display at the EAGM's Gallery 1 through the "Andrew King: Welcome to the Circus" exhibit.

Andersen said they wanted to have the event at the EAGM so that they can get more people into the building, and show off renovations that have occurred.
