The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team wrapped up their regular season with a 42-13 road loss against Yorkton Regional.
Quarterback Kolby Fleury scored both of Estevan's touchdowns on running plays.
The game against Yorkton Regional was the first of two in a five-day span for the Elecs. They'll return to Yorkton on October 13 for a quarter-final playoff game. The Elecs enter the playoffs as the Moose Jaw High School Football League's No. 7 seed, as they went 0-6 during the regular season.
Yorkton was 5-1, and they'll be the No. 2 seed.
Elecs coach Mark Schott said they employed basic schemes for the October 9 game versus Yorkton Regional.
"We knew that there was a good chance that we would be playing Yorkton again on Saturday, so we kept our offence and our defence pretty basic," said Schott. "Hopefully we can open things up a little bit more on Saturday's game, and that can lead to a better result."
Schott said a lot of the Elecs' starters didn't play the entire game. Fleury was removed from the game after the first drive of the second half, when the score was 28-13.
"Defensively we were holding guys out and trying to rotate some of our depth players in to get them some game experience to keep our starters fresh for the quick-turnaround for Saturday," said Schott.
Fleury moved the ball well through the air, Schott said, and both running backs – Colton Bachorcik and Caleb Memory – had some productive runs against a tough defence.
The Elecs also managed a couple interceptions, and some pressure on the quarterback, Schott said.
