Burning ban lifted in the Estevan area

Estevan Fire Services has lifted a burning ban that had been in place in the Estevan area since late August.

The burn ban had been enforced for the City of Estevan, the RM of Estevan, and the areas in the RMs of Cambria and Benson that the fire department serves. But the ban was lifted October 9 thanks to some recent precipitation.

The Estevan area received some rain, and even a little bit of snow, in the days prior to October 9. But while the fire risk is lower than it was in recent weeks, Deputy Fire Chief Dale Feser said the risk is still rated as moderate or high in the Estevan area. Feser encourages people to take caution when they are conducting burns.

Most people were compliant with the burning ban since it was enforced, he said, but they did have a few reports of people conducting burns in their sloughs.
