Police respond to assault, suspicious individuals and intoxicated people

Estevan Police Service members were dispatched to calls of intoxicated individuals, suspicious people and an assault during the long weekend.

Police were called to a local nightclub Saturday night after a male who had been asked to leave decided to return to the club. The male was outside the establishment when police arrived, and was sent on his way with other friends. No further action was required.

Police are investigating a mischief incident that involved a vehicle after the Estevan Bruins' hockey game. The matter is under investigation, and police have a suspect.

Police were called to a convenience store on a report of a fight. On arrival, the involved subjects had left the area. Members located them in a vehicle in another area of the city, at which time they were spoken to and warned of their actions.

Police were called to a local lounge after a panic alarm had been tripped. On arrival, they learned that staff tripped the alarm when a fight was about to break out in the bar. The people responsible for the altercation left before police arrived.

Police arrested and lodged a 24-year-old male after he was located passed out behind a local nightclub. He was lodged for his own safety, and will be released when sober.

While on patrol on Friday night, officers noted a disturbance behind The Beef nightclub. Upon looking into the matter, police determined that an accident had occurred. A female driver, backing from her parking stall, struck another vehicle passing by. This resulted in a confrontation involving the drivers and passengers of both vehicles. One passenger from one of the vehicles struck another passenger from the other vehicle, causing significant injury that required medical attention. This assault remains under investigation, and charges are pending. One of the drivers involved in the incident had been drinking, and since he was a novice driver, his license has been suspended for 30 days. The matter remains under investigation.

Police were called to a noisy party on the east end of the city. The subject responsible was first warned under the bylaw, but when police were called back a second time, the subject was subsequently charged. She will make a court appearance on November 19.

A call to a business on the south end of the city was also received when the complainant noted youths were loitering on the parking lot. Upon arrival, nobody was spotted in the area.

A call of a suspicious person in the west end of the city was received, and again, nobody was located in the area when police arrived.

A report of someone pointing a laser light from a vehicle was received. Members patrolled the area for the vehicle, but it was not located.

Police received a report of a female passed out in a local lounge. When officers arrived, she had left and staff could not locate her. She was later found by members on the street in a very intoxicated state. She was arrested and lodged for her own safety, and will be charged under the Alcohol Gaming Regulations Act for public intoxication.

Police also received multiple calls to attend to a local convenience store. Throughout the night, different groups of people gathered on the lot and began causing a disturbance. When officers arrived, no problems were noted. The crowds left on their own.

A 32-year-old male was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08, after police noted the accused’s driving actions. A traffic stop was conducted, and the accused was taken into custody. He will appear in court November 19.
