Local residents had a couple opportunities to celebrate the nationwide Culture Days on September 29.
One of the venues was at the Estevan Public Library, where local artist Danita Stallard taught a pair of sessions. A calligraphy class, “From Scribbler to Scribe,” took place in the morning. Participants created illuminated envelopes, ornamented letterheads and unique fonts.
In the afternoon, Stallard taught a cartooning class called “Chibi Me.” People brought a picture of their family or friends to caricature it or develop a character for a comic strip.
The other Culture Days event was at the Souris Valley Museum's booth at the Estevan Showcase Business Expo. Children enjoyed several different crafts, and members of the public could view the items that are part of the museum's new hands-on exhibit.
The hands-on exhibit allows people to touch some of the items at the museum, and get a better sense of the changes that have occurred in many household items.
More than 7,000 events happened across the country through Culture Days this year.
