The United Way Estevan is making the final preparations for its 36th annual Telethon, which will take place on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 at the Estevan Royal Canadian Legion.
Local entertainment will be showcased throughout the broadcast. Member agency representatives will share information and highlights regarding their organizations' current programs and future plans during interviews. A canteen will offer refreshments and food on site.
Members of the public are invited to come to the Legion and enjoy the entertainment. A 1950s dance will conclude the telethon; people can come to the Legion dressed in their '50s gear and dance to music from that era.
Volunteers are still needed for various shifts and duties. Those who are interested in helping out can contact the United Way's office at 634-7375 or executivedirector@unitedwayestevan.com.
Homemade bid items are still being accepted for the silent auction. Anybody who wants to donate a bid item can contact Wendy at 421-7124, or Christa at 421-9235.
This year’s campaign goal is $335,000. The funds that are raised will support 17 member agencies and two community impact projects. The theme is “Be the Difference.”
“Your generous support raises funds for local programs that assist many of our neighbours, friends and family,” the organization stated in a press release. “These funds support and enable member agencies to continue and expand their programs and services.
Pledges collected during the telethon will "make a difference" in the lives of so many people.
Board members and volunteers painted United Way logos at intersections across the city on September 30 to help promote the telethon.
The 33-hour telethon will be broadcast live on Access 7 from 8 a.m. on October 12 to 5 p.m. on October 13.
