The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team came up with an “inspired” effort, according to head coach Mark Schott, but still lost 28-19 to Moose Jaw Central September 22.
Estevan had a 13-7 lead at half-time, but were outscored 21-6 in the second half. Kolby Fleury tossed three touchdown passes in the game – two to Evan Tarnes and one to Tyler Thiessen.
The Elecs were also stopped inside the Moose Jaw five-yard line on their opening possession.
Schott noted that the game against Central was their third in 10 days, and the Elecs have been battling injuries. But they mustered their most complete game of the year.
“We still have a ways to go, but we had a better second half than any of our previous three games, and we were up against a good team,” said Schott. “Central is undefeated.”
Schott hopes that the Elecs can build on their performance against Central. They still need to shore up their defensive coverage, he said, and they have to do a better job of finishing drives.
Estevan's next game is at home September 29 against Moose Jaw Vanier. The game starts at 1 p.m.
