The Estevan Lions Club Bantam Steelers dropped a 68-38 decision against the Lumsden Devils on September 22 in Estevan.
The Steelers scored on their first two possessions of the game, thanks to a 50-yard touchdown for Matt Haux on a reverse play on their first drive, and another long run by Haux for a score on the second possession.
Estevan led 14-8 after the first quarter, but Lumsden scored 24 unanswered points in the second to take a 32-14 lead at half-time. Coach Phil Zajac said the Steelers suffered a lull after they scored on their first two drives.
Estevan kept the game relatively close through the second half, until Lumsden scored a couple touchdowns late in the game for the 30-point spread.
Zajac said they need to work on their tackling, because they were in position to make plays, but couldn't bring down their opponents.
The Steelers next game is September 30 in Regina against the Dinos.
The Century 21 Peewee Chargers dropped a 49-0 decision against the Regina Thunder, one of the top teams in the league, on September 22.
Coach Steve McLellan said the team was more prepared to play than they were the previous week, and that made him happy. But they were playing a very good team that was well-prepared.
"Overall, I was really happy with the effort we put forth, and I think we just have to continue to build and work towards getting better each week," said McLellan.
The Chargers need to work on their outside running game, he said. While they were able to pass the ball well, there's still room for improvement.
Their next game is September 30 in Regina against the Unicorns.
The Sherritt Coal Atom Miners lost 34-0 to the Regina Bengals in the Miners' final game of the regular season. They finished the year with a 0-6 record.
They came out strong, said co-head coach Evan Helfrick. They moved the ball well during the first half, particularly on the opening drive, but couldn't get any points. And they suffered a few bad breaks during the contest.
The Miners will finish the season when they face the Regina Lions in the Estevan Boston Pizza Bowl Game on Saturday, September 29 at 10:45 a.m. at the Estevan Comprehensive School field. A trophy will be handed out to the winning team after the game.
