Riders fall to Alouettes

The Saskatchewan Roughriders lost to the Montreal Alouettes 28-17 in what was a close game in the second half. But the Riders took too many penalties, which did not help Riders’ quarterback Drew Willy, who made his first career start in place of Darian Durant. The Riders record is 5-6 and their next game is against the Calgary Stampeders.

Other scores from week 12 were: the Hamilton Tiger-Cats demolished the Edmonton Eskimos 51-8, the B.C. Lions got past the Toronto Argonauts 28-23 and the Calgary Stampeders embarrassed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 44-3.

In the NFL, the New England Patriots lost to the Arizona Cardinals 20-18 in a close game. The Pats lost tight end Aaron Hernandez to an ankle injury in the first quarter. New England’s record is 1-1 and their next game is against the Baltimore Ravens.

Other scores from Week 2 were: the Carolina Panthers beat the New Orleans Saints 35-27, the St. Louis Rams got past the Washington Redskins 31-28, the Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-7 and the San Diego Chargers won out over the Tennessee Titans 38-10.

In NCAA Football, the No. 14 Florida Gators beat the Tennessee Volunteers 37-20. The Gators record is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Their next game is against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Other scores from Week 3 were: the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide hammered the Arkansas Razorbacks 52-0, the No. 3 Oregon Ducks beat Tennessee Tech 63-14, the No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes beat the California Golden Bears 35-28 and the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles beat the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 52-0.

In Major League Baseball, the Washington Nationals were swept by Atlanta Braves over the weekend. The Nats are in first place in the National League East.

That’s all folks!
