The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team has dropped its first three games of the season.
Estevan lost 36-14 to Swift Current on September 18. The defeat came five days after a 31-14 loss against Moose Jaw Peacock.
In the loss against Swift Current, Estevan trailed 14-7 at half-time and 21-14 entering the fourth quarter. But the Colts scored early in the fourth quarter to take a two touchdown lead, and added a single on the ensuing kickoff to up the lead to 15. The Colts returned an interception for a touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
Cole MacCuish scored Estevan's first touchdown on a kickoff return in the second quarter. Evan Tarnes had the other score on a touchdown reception late in the third frame.
Elecs head coach Mark Schott said the game was similar to the Elecs season-opening loss against Weyburn on September 9. They had a strong first half, but then they faded, both offensively and defensively, in the second half.
“There are some depth issues there, and we have some guys playing on both sides of the ball, but we have to find a way to fight through. Lots of teams have the same numbers that we have, and they find away,” said Schott.
Positives included the performances of running backs Kaleb Memory and Colton Bachorcik. Schott said they had their best games of the year. The offensive line had a better game, too. Quarterback Kolby Fleury and the receivers moved the ball well.
The Elecs' next game is September 22 against Moose Jaw Central.
