The Estevan Bruins have dealt one of their returning local players to a team that's in Manitoba.
Forward Ben Johnstone, a 19-year-old product of Carlyle, was shipped to the new Virden Oil Capitals for future considerations.
Johnstone had eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 49 games last season. He was named the league's rookie of the month for November. His season was highlighted by a three-goal game against Notre Dame in November - a game that was played in Carlyle.
In other Bruin news, defenceman Sean Whelan has been assigned to the Bruins from the Regina Pats of the WHL. Whelan played in all four of the Pats' pre-season games.
Whelan spent last year with the Moose Jaw Generals of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. He had 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 39 games.
The Bruins currently have 29 players in camp: 16 forwards, 11 defencemen and two goaltenders.
Most of those players will have one last chance to impress the team's brass during Monday night's pre-season finale against the Notre Dame Hounds at Spectra Place. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
