University Women Day in Saskatchewan

The provincial government has honoured the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) by declaring that Friday, September 14, is CFUW Day in Saskatchewan.

The Souris Valley Museum will be offering free admission on September 14 in honour of CFUW Day.

The CFUW has closed to 9,000 members in 110 clubs across Canada, and it is one of 62 national affiliate members of the International Federation of University Women (IFUW).

The CFUW's mission is to improve the status of women and girls, work for human rights and promote peace. It supports education, life-long learning and research; encourages graduate women, associated members and students to use their education and training for the service of the local, national and international community; and work in concert with the IFUW towards social change.

Since the CFUW's establishment in 1919, the organization has helped Canadian women pursue graduate studies through its national fellowship and awards program. The awards are handed out annually. In addition,

CFUW clubs across the country collectively award more than $1 million annually in scholarships and bursaries to help women in their local communities pursue post-secondary studies.

The Estevan chapter is among those that hands out a scholarship each year.
