Adjudicator chosen for art show

The Estevan Arts Council has chosen the adjudicator for its annual Adjudicated Art Show, which will be happening in November at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM).

Deborah Potter will be the adjudicator for the event. She has degrees in fine arts and education from the University of Regina, and she taught fine arts for Regina's public schools system. During her teaching career, she was involved in the curriculum development and implementation for Arts Education 6 to 8, and Visual Art 10, 20 and 30 for Saskatchewan Learning.

Since her retirement from teaching she worked with the Learning Through the Arts program for a number of years. She also co-wrote a curriculum support program, taught summer school for the arts, taught classes for the City of Regina, designed a display for the Saskatchewan Science Centre and audited a number of University classes.

She will host a workshop on making jewelry on Saturday, November 3, starting at 1 p.m. Each participant will use tools and techniques to turn wire and beads into individual pieces of art.

Potter will conduct a critique for the artists on Sunday, November 4. Potter will speak to each artist about their submissions, and she will announce the artists who will be invited to apply to the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils for a touring show.

A public reception for the adjudicated art show will take place at the EAGM on Thursday, November 8, starting at 7 p.m.

Participants must submit five works with the same theme that must have been completed within the past three years. Previously adjudicated works may be entered. Two-dimensional work must be framed and ready for hanging, but there isn't a size restriction on works entered, other than they need to fit within a gallery.

The deadline to submit an entry form for the adjudicated art show is Friday, October 19. Forms must be dropped off at the Estevan Arts Council office inside the Leisure Centre. Art must be dropped off at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum on October 26.
