The rebuild of the back nine at the Estevan Woodlawn Golf Course remains on schedule and on budget, according to head pro/general manager Brian Dueck.

Seeding wrapped up in early August, when the grass seed was applied to the 18th fairway. All of the greens and fairways on the new back nine have now been seeded.

A couple of holes could probably be played this year, but Dueck said there's no benefit in having Woodlawn play as a 10-hole or an 11-hole course for the final few weeks of the season.

"In the long-term, it would be way more beneficial for the golf course to open the back nine all up at the same time next spring," said Dueck. "That's what our goal was originally."

The weather was great during the seeding process, he said, as the temperatures were hot and the conditions were dry.

"For the two-and-a-half months we took for the grow-in to happen, while the work was going on, we didn't want a lot of rain, just a little here and there," said Dueck. "If you get a downpour of an inch or so, it does shut it down for a couple days."

Now they need some rain to help with some non-irrigated areas.

Dueck said they'll know later this month whether they're on budget, or under budget. There "odds and ends" remaining that have to be accounted for, Dueck said.
