The 2012 NCAA football season begins soon, and there are some big changes for this year. The Ohio State Buckeyes have hired Urban Meyer, who was working for ESPN, as their new head coach. This will be the final year for the current post-season system, as in 2014, there will be a playoff format between the top four ranked teams for the national championship. Here is my top 10 ranking: No.1 the Oregon Ducks, No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners, No. 3 Southern California Trojans, 4 Michigan Wolverines, No.5 Louisiana State University Tigers, 6 Arkansas Razorbacks, No. 7 Texas Longhorns, No. 8 Florida State Seminoles, No. 9 Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
In the CFL, the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost their fifth straight to the Calgary Stampeders 17-10 in a close game. The Riders' record is 3-5 and their next game is against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Labour Day Classic.
Other scores from Week 9 were: the Montreal Alouettes got past the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 31-29 and the B.C. Lions beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 20-17.
In NFL preseason, the New England Patriots lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-28. The Pats record is 1-2 and their final preseason game is against the New York Giants.
Other preseason scores were: the Baltimore Ravens beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 48-17, the Washington Redskins beat the Indianapolis Colts 30-17, the San Diego Chargers got past the Minnesota Vikings 12-10 and the Oakland Raiders beat the Dallas Cowboys 31-20.
In Major League Baseball, the Washington Nationals were swept by the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. The Nats are still in first place in the National League East.
In NASCAR, Denny Hamlin won the Irwin Tools night race, finishing ahead of Jimmie Johnson. Bobby Labonte started in 36th and finished the race in 14th. The next race is the AdvoCare 500.
That’s all folks!
