Eels finish fourth at provincials

Members of the Estevan Golden Eels Swim Club were busy August 4 and 5, as they competed at the provincial semi-final and final in Regina.

The Eels finished third in the semi-finals, behind Regina and Weyburn, and fourth in provincials. Regina, Humboldt and Weyburn took the top three spots at provincials.

The Eels helped the south win the provincial Halliday Cup showdown against the north.

Several Eels won individual medals at the semi-finals: Carson Wheeler won bronze in the seven and eight boys; Hannah Mantei won gold in nine and 10 girls; Josh Wilson won bronze in nine and 10 boys; Lanelle Bilokraly won bronze in 13 and 14 girls; and Sam Beahm won gold in 13 and 14 boys.

At provincials, Hannah Mantei topped the nine and 10 girls age group, as she took gold in the 50-metre fly; silver in the 50-metre breaststroke, the 50-metre freestyle and 100-metre freestyle; and bronze in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Swimmers who won medals at provincials were: Samuel Beahm, 13 and 14 boys, silver in the 100-metre freestyle, the 100-metre breaststroke and the 200-metre fly; Lanelle Bilokraly, 13 and 14 girls, silver in the 100-metre breaststroke and the 100-metre backstroke, and bronze in the 200-metre individual medley; Preston Bilokraly, 15 to 17 boys, gold in the 50-metre freestyle and bronze in the 100-metre fly; Alia Burlock, nine and 10 girls, silver in the 50-metre backstroke; Adah DeLeeux, seven and eight girls, silver in the 50-metre freestyle; Abbie Reich, 13 and 14 girls, bronze in the 50-metre freestyle; Thomas Wakely, 11 and 12 boys, bronze in the 50-metre fly; Carson Wheeler, seven and eight boys, gold in the 25-metre backstroke, silver in the 50-metre freestyle, and bronze in the 25-metre breaststroke and the 25-metre freestyle; and Josh Wilson, nine and 10 boys, silver in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Also competing at provincials were: Jesse Beahm, Zachary Beahm, Racquelle Gibbons, Reagan Gibbons, Taylor Haux, Garret Ross and Payten Wilson.

Those who competed at the semi-finals, but not provincials, were: Alex Andrist, Charlotte Andrist, Josie Andrist, Victoria Beahm, Taylor Dickie, Emily Marshall, Logan Marshall, Abigail Ross and Brielle Wakely.
