Local woman killed in accident

An accident between a motorist and a pedestrian at the intersection of Third Street and Souris Avenue South in Estevan has left a local woman dead.

The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. on July 30. The woman was walking westbound across the intersection when she was struck by the vehicle, according to Constable Lana Gropp with the Estevan Police Service.

She was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan, where she died of her injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Karen Hancock, a 62-year-old resident of Estevan.

Charges for driving without due care and attention are still pending against the motorist, as of the early afternoon of August 1. Gropp said Estevan Police Service and the Estevan RCMP are still gathering information and proceeding with the investigation.

"The RCMP have been able to supply us with the data and information from the vehicle," said Gropp.

Gropp expects that charges will be laid sometime in early August.
