Great pitching and hitting led the host Southeast Steelers to top spot at the provincial Senior B Women's Fastpitch Championship, which was held in Carnduff July 21 and 22.
The Steelers won the three games they played by a combined score of 31-2. In the round robin, they beat Carlyle 16-1 in three innings, and the Saskatoon Cave Riot 8-1 in five innings to go 2-0 and advance to the final.
The final consisted of the Steelers and Saskatoon. The Steelers won 7-0 in five innings.
"Our defence and our hitting were pretty awesome," said Steelers coach Alan Hubbard.
The Steelers have advanced to the Western Canadian Fastpitch Championships in Abbotsford, B.C, from August 16 to 19.
"We can always improve on things, but we just want concentrate on our defence," said Hubbard. "With the pitching staff we have, I'm pretty comfortable about that. You can always pick up another bat to help you out as you go on to Westerns, but after the weekend (at provincials), I was pretty impressed with all aspects of the team."
As for Carlyle, in addition to their loss to the Steelers, they lost 15-0 to Saskatoon in the round robin, and 8-1 in semi-final.
