Kraft Celebration Tour finalists chosen

Despite the efforts of Oxbow residents and people in the surrounding communities, Oxbow was not among the finalists chosen for this year's TSN Kraft Celebration Tour.

Oxbow resident Crystal Maffenbeier had submitted Oxbow's bid for a tour stop. Oxbow's ball diamonds sustained significant damage during last year's flooding of the Souris River, and Maffenbeier said the $25,000 prize from Kraft that is part of the tour would help with the rebuilding expenses.

A total of 346 people offered supportive comments for Oxbow's bid on the Kraft Celebration Tour website.

The communities of Kerrobert, which is located near the Saskatchewan-Alberta border in west-central Saskatchewan, and Porcupine Plain in the northeast part of the province, are the Saskatchewan finalists. They'll be pitted in an on-line voting showdown later this month to determine the Saskatchewan stop on the tour.

A total of 20 finalists were announced on Canada Day. There'll be 10 on-line voting match-ups this month, including Kerrobert versus Porcupine Plain, to determine the 10 tour stops this summer.

In addition to the $25,000 from Kraft, each community on the tour will receive a live broadcast from TSN's "SportsCentre" highlights and news program.
