Squirt team competes at softball provincials


The Estevan Power Tech Squirt Badgers competed at the provincial softball tournament in Outlook and Conquest during the Canada Day long weekend. They went 3-1 in the round-robin, but lost to Oxbow in the quarter-finals. Team members were: Jenna Blanchette, Cam Brown, Reese Handley, Payten Wilson, Courtney Kanigan, McKenzie Fleck, K'lynn Duttenhoffer, Katelyn Hutt, Raine Smith, Makenna Morrison, Mercedes Sackman and Taylor Sargent. Coaches were Mike Wilson and Brad Pierson.

The Estevan Power Tech Squirt Badgers travelled to Outlook and Conquest during the Canada Day long weekend for their provincial softball tournament.

Estevan opened the tournament with a 15-1 win over Delisle, but then suffered a 9-8 loss to Hudson Bay. The Badgers recovered to beat Kerrobert 15-12 and Kindersley 20-11 to finish second in their pool with a 3-1 record.

Estevan's hopes for a provincial title ended in the quarter-finals with a 13-11 loss against the Oxbow Angels.

Estevan also hosted the Zone 1 Bantam Playdowns on June 30. The tournament was used as a qualifier for Saskatchewan Summer Games in Meadow Lake.

The Estevan Guardian Chargers went 0-3 at the tournament. They lost 15-8 to the Moose Creek Jays and 12-2 to the Weyburn DQ Blizzards in the round-robin, and 14-12 to the Blizzards in the semi-final game.

Moose Creek defeated Weyburn 10-1 in the tournament final to advance to Meadow Lake.
