The Miami Heat won the NBA Championship by beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 121-106 in Game 5 to take the series in five games. The series was tied at one after Game 2, but Miami took control of the series after that. This is the Heat’s second championship; the first one came in 2006. This is also LeBron James’ first title since leaving Cleveland and he was named the Most Valuable Player of the final.
In the CFL, the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost their final preseason game, 33-31 to the Calgary Stampeders in a close game. The Riders scored and took the lead with 50 seconds left on the clock, but they were unable to stop the Stampeders from marching down and kicking the winning field goal. The Riders will open the regular season against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Andy Fantuz.
Other preseason Scores were: the B.C. Lions beat the Edmonton Eskimos 24-16, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats got past the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 26-25 and the Toronto Argonauts beat the Montreal Alouettes 25-20.
In the Arena Football League, the Philadelphia Soul hammered the Pittsburgh Power 69-34 in a one-sided game. The Soul’s record is 12-3 and their next game is against the Tampa Bay Storm.
Other scores from Week 16 were: the Arizona Rattlers hammered the Milwaukee Mustangs 52-37, the San Antonio Talons beat the Tampa Bay Storm 77-56, the Spokane Shock got past the San Jose SaberCats 90-63 and the Jacksonville Sharks outscored the Cleveland Gladiators 56-42.
In International Rugby, the Qantas wallabies beat Wales 20-19 in a close game. The Wallabies will next compete at the Rugby Championship on August 18. They have a 3-1 record.
In the Western Major Baseball League, the Regina Red Sox beat the Weyburn Beavers 12-5 in a one-sided game. The Red Sox are first place in the East Division.
In Major League Baseball, the Miami Marlins took two of three games from the Toronto Blue Jays.
