The RM of Benson celebrated the generosity of many people in the region during an appreciation barbecue on June 23.
The event was held on the one-year anniversary of the peak of last year's flooding in the RM and in the hamlet of Benson. It was a tribute to the people who reside in the area, and to those who helped save the hamlet.
The hamlet came within about 30 minutes of being destroyed by flood waters last year, but a quick response by people in the region resulted in the construction of protective berms and dikes, which saved the hamlet from being submerged.
About 130 people in attendance at the appreciation barbecue. Many were from the hamlet and the RM, but there were also people present from Stoughton, Lampman and Estevan who responded during last year's flood, and they wanted to offer their best wishes to Benson.
