One person killed near Macoun

A 44-year-old male motorist was killed Thursday night in a fatal rollover that occurred on a grid road five kilometres north and three kilometres east of Macoun.

Estevan RCMP responded to the accident at 11 p.m.

The driver was traveling north when it lost control and rolled into the right side ditch. The vehicle came to rest in shallow water and the driver was ejected.

A passerby spotted the vehicle and initiated the search for the driver, with assistance from local residents and Midale Fire and Rescue.

The 44-year-old male driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was located soon after and pronounced dead at the scene.

A Traffic Reconstructionist has been on the scene, attempting to determine the cause of the accident. Traffic will be diverted until the investigation is complete.

The deceased was not believed to have been wearing his seatbelt. Police will be attempting to determine if alcohol and speed contributed to the accident.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
