Lampman weekend attracts teams

The Kenosee Cubs and the Carnduff Astros met in men's hardball action at the Lampman Sports Weekend. The Astros went on to win the men's hardball division.

The Lampman Sports Weekend June 1 to 3 featured tournaments and games at several different levels of competition.

The Carnduff Astros won the men's hardball division, defeating the Estevan Tower Wolves 12-2 in the A Final. The Carlyle Cougars took the B Final with a 6-3 triumph over the Lampman Pirates.

A total of seven teams were entered in men's hardball. A team from Beulah, Montana, was entered, and that added an international dimension to the hardball tournament.

Fourteen teams were entered in mixed slow-pitch. Max's Bar and Steak Pit won the A final, defeating the What-ya-ma-call-its. The Metro Bulldogs beat the F-Bombs in the B event, while the Express defeated the Manor Young Guns in the C final.

Three women's ball games were held. The Lampman Lasers defeated the Redvers Foxy Socks 5-2. The Estevan Bombers beat Lampman 6-4. The Bombers also defeated Redvers 16-2.
There were girls' softball games during the sports weekend, too.

The weekend featured more than just sports. An inflatable playground was set up in the town's curling rink. A street dance was held on Main Street on June 2, with Carli's Angels providing the music. A barbecue beef supper was held on June 3.

The Ford Drive One for your School program was an added attraction. Each time somebody test drove one of the new Fords that were available, the automobile company donated $20 to the Lampman School.
