Ten members of the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs track and field club have advanced to provincials, which will be held June 1 and 2 in Saskatoon.
Athletes needed to finish first or second in their events at districts in Weyburn on May 23 to reach provincials. The exception is those who will be competing in the four-by-100-metre relay, as the entrants for that event were selected.
In the midget division, which is for all Grade 9 athletes and some in Grade 10, William Chamney qualified for provincials in the boys' 100-metre dash, the high jump and the four-by-100-metre relay. Cole MacCuish qualified in the 100 metres, the 200 metres and the relay.
In midget girls, Keena McKnight qualified in the 800 metres, the 1,500 metres and the long jump.
In the junior division, which is for some athletes in Grades 10 and some in Grade 11, Mason Benning advanced in the boys 800 metres, Regan Haukeness qualified in the 1,500 metres, and Chase McKersie advanced in the 100 metres and the relay.
Kristina Chamney advanced in the junior girls' 80-metre hurdles, the long jump, the 100 metres and the relay.
Three athletes qualified in the senior divisions, which is for some Grade 11s and all Grade 12s. Among the boys, David Kleemola qualified in the 3,000 metres and Arnette McKay advanced in the 100 metres, the long jump, the high jump and the relay.
Larissa Smeltzer advanced in the senior girls' 3,000 metres.
A total of 23 Elecs were at districts.
