Police and fire crews respond to two fires

Members of the Estevan Police Service and the Estevan Fire Services responded to a pair of fires on Tuesday night.

The first was in west-central Estevan. The fire was extinguished, at which time individuals at the scene were warned about current fire regulations.

The other fire was at a hotel in central Estevan. A male was removed from his room as a result of substantial smoke, caused by food being left unattended on the stove. Fire department members used fans to eliminate the smoke. No injuries occurred, and the matter has concluded.

Also on Tuesday night, a male was stopped by police in central Estevan, at which time he was issued a 24-hour driving suspension.

Police were called to an accident in northeast Estevan on Monday night. A southbound pick-up truck proceeded through a red light and struck a westbound truck as it entered the intersection, and then struck the traffic light standard. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. EMS attended and transported the driver of the southbound truck to hospital with minor injuries. The female driver of the westbound truck sustained minor injuries and was released by EMS at the scene. The matter remains under investigation.
