The Stars for Saskatchewan concert series will present award-winning accordionist Alexander Sevastian on Sunday, February 12 at St. Paul's United Church in Estevan. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
The show is organized in cooperation with Prairie Debut, a block booking network that enables communities of all sizes to bring world-class artists to their audiences.
Sevastian has won several international accordion championships. His fame began in 1988 when he won Norway’s Oslofjord Accordion Competition. He won the Cup of the North in Russia in 2000, the Anthony Galla-Rini Accordion Competition in the U.S. in 2001, and the Roland Competition in Toronto in 2009.
He has performed in Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Italy. He has also travelled extensively as a member of the Quartetto Gelato
He was born in Minsk, Belarus, and moved to Canada in 2001. He became a Canadian citizen in 2005.
The Stars for Saskatchewan series has also announced a change in their schedule. Ballet Jorgen's performance of “Anastasia,” which was slated for March 4, has been cancelled due to what the Arts Council described as “unforeseen circumstances.”
The string quartet Mile Zero will replace Ballet Jorgen for that March 4 date. Mile Zero's show will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Estevan Comprehensive School.
