Sherrilee Orsted, competing out of the Estevan Curling Club, picked up one win at the SaskPower Southern Ladies Playdowns that were held in Weyburn from January 13 to 15.
Orsted opened the playdowns with a 9-6 loss to Chantelle Eberle, who would go on to win the A final at playdowns. Orsted held the lead several times during the game, including a 6-5 edge after nine ends, but Eberle scored four in the 10th end.
The Orsted rink regrouped to defeat Shalon Fleming 8-3 in eight ends in their second game. Orsted seized an early advantage with two in the first end, and three more in the third for a 5-1 lead. Fleming was never able to draw closer than three points after the third end.
Two straight losses ended Orsted's hope for a trip to provincials. Her team lost 7-4 to Mandy Selzer and 6-5 to Candace Chisholm in a must-win game.
Orsted and Selzer were tied 3-3 after five ends, but Selzer scored four of the final five points of the match. Chisholm had leads of 3-0 after three ends and 6-2 after seven, but Orsted made the game close with two in the eighth and one in the ninth. The game ended when Orsted ran out of rocks in the 10th.
Other members of Orsted's team were third Candace Newkirk, second Marcy Cameron and lead Stephanie Barnstable.
