The attendance records for Estevan City Council in 2011 have been released.
Council met 36 times last year. Twenty-four meetings were regular, open sessions. Two meetings were designated for the budget, and the other 10 took place in committee.
Councillors Chris Istace and Lynn Chipley had the best attendance. They each missed just one meeting. Istace was absent from a budget meeting in November that started in the afternoon. He missed that session due to work commitments.
Chipley's missed one meeting in May, and that was due to a vacation.
Mayor Gary St. Onge and Councillors Dennis Moore and Brian Johnson each made it to 34 of 36 meetings. St. Onge missed two meetings in February. One was an open meeting and the other was in committee. Both absences were due to holidays.
Moore missed two open meetings – one in February and one in March – due to a vacation. Johnson's missed meetings came in February due to a holiday. He missed one open meeting and one committee meeting.
Councillor Roy Ludwig missed eight meetings last year. Five of his missed meetings were due to a vacation from late February to early April. He also missed an open meeting in early January, a committee meeting in May and an open meeting in August due to holidays.
Councillor Rodney Beatty missed 14 meetings last year, including 10 regular meetings and the two budget meetings. Seven of those absences were due to illness. Three were for vacations and he was missing twice because of work. He was classified as absent twice.
There were only 13 meetings in which all members of Council were in attendance. Nine of those were regular open meetings. At least one member was missing from 15 open meetings.
Attendance for Council is released each year as per the terms of Council's financial compensation policy.
