Building permit values soar in August

Estevan is on track to have one of its busiest, and most lucrative, years ever in terms of building activity.

A total of 106 permits, worth a little more than $36 million, were issued through August 31, according to the monthly building permit report released at Estevan City Council’s meeting on September 20.

The total value from 16 permits in August was more than $20.3 million.

There were three residential permits issued in August, along with two commercial permits, three industrial permits, two institutional permits, four garage permits and two miscellaneous permits. The institutional permits boasted a total value of $12.95 million, while the commercial permits had a total value that topped $6 million.

So far this year, 24 single-family residential building permits, with a total value of $6.1 million, have been approved. And there have been five multi-family permits, with a value of more than $4.5 million, 29 garage permits for $470,800 and 26 miscellaneous permits for $494,505.

In the first eight months of 2009, there were 90 permits with a total value of $34.48 million.

Through the first eight months of 2009, there were 15 single-family permits worth about $3.5 million, two multi-family permits worth $3.6 million, 21 garage permits for $322,462.58, and 30 miscellaneous permits for $536,360.
