Souris-Moose Mountain MP Ed Komarnicki has responded to the survival of the long gun registry.
Canada’s MPs voted 153-151 to turf a private members bill from Manitoba Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner’s. Hoeppner wanted to see the long gun registry repealed.
“The Liberal, NDP and Bloc Coalition have forced the continuance of the long gun registry on farmers, duck hunters and indeed all lawful firearms owners,” said Komarnicki.
“The vote on the long gun registry did not deal with a complicated issue. It was either up or down, in or out with the long gun registry. Their vote was disrespectful to all lawful firearms owners and in particular rural Canadians who won’t forget what the Liberals and NDP did to them. They will get the message loud and clear in the next election.
Komarnicki said the long gun registry was a mistake in the first place, and it should be scrapped. The registry is a “colossal” wast e of money and a source of inconvenience and annoyance to many hunters, farmers and law-abiding citizens.
“There is no correlation between a crime being committed and whether a long gun is registered or not. Any supposed connection is a fallacy that gives some a sense of false security.”
Komarnicki vowed that the issue isn’t over, and the registry is closer than ever to being scrapped.
