The three track champions at the Estevan Motor Speedway wrapped up their titles in fine fashion on Saturday.
Tyson Turnbull (modifieds), Rocky Alexander (stock cars) and Dana Brandt (hobby stocks) put the finishing touches on their respective track titles by winning Saturday’s feature races.
In Turnbull's case, it was his first feature race win of the season. Devin Raynard was second and Chris Hortness was third in the feature.
Turnbull finished the season with 316 points, 15 more than runner-up Jim Harris’ 301 points. Joren Boyce was third with 296 points.
Turnbull joins his father, Ed, and his brother, Aaron, as modified track champions in Estevan.
Alexander won his fourth local feature of the season, and he finished with 334 total points. Joe Flory was second in the championship hunt with 328 points. Ironically, Alexander and Flory also finished 1-2 in Saturday’s feature.
Brandt won the hobby stock feature for the 10th time in 11 races this year, and concluded what was arguably the most dominant season in Estevan Motor Speedway history. Brandt collected 429 of a possible 440 points this season.
Dallas Rice was second in Saturday’s feature, and finished second in the overall standings, with 399 points.
Prior to the program, fans, drivers and track officials paid tribute to Estevan's Tyler Fedyk, who was killed in a pit lane accident earlier this month in Minot, N.D. A moment of silence was observed for Fedyk. Fedyk’s cousins, Kyle and Kohlan Fedyk, circled the track several times in their sprint cars.
“Tyler was a tremendous supporter of the racing here in Estevan, and many other tracks, and we're certainly going to miss him,” said track announcer Bill Mann.
The annual Enduro race wrapped up the season on Sunday. Forty-three drivers entered the 90-minute race.
