The Estevan Bruins have announced their captain for the 2010-11 season.
Winger Troy Hunter, who was one of the club’s prized off-season acquisitions, will sport the “C” for the Black and Gold. Hunter was acquired from the Manitoba League’s Dauphin Kings as part of the future considerations in the Devin Mitzner trade. The Bruins also gave up forward Jeremy Peeke to acquire Hunter.
Hunter helped the Kings win the Manitoba league title last year, and reach the final of the Royal Bank Cup national championship game.
He had 11 goals, 32 points and 100 penalty minutes for Dauphin last year.
The club has also announced their 25-man roster for the upcoming season. Thirteen players are back from the team that finished last in the SJHL in 2009-10. There are six more players on the roster who have junior A experience, and six rookies on the team.
Forwards Matt White and Matt Luongo, and goaltender Alex Sirard, won’t be with the club this year. They finished last season with the Bruins, and participated in training camp scrimmages, but aren’t on the 25-man roster. Sirard lost his back-up goalie job to newcomer Shea Cooper.
Estevan will open their season Thursday night in Melville.
