Riders Win Labour Day Classic

The Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 27-23 in a close game in the Labour Day Classic. It was an ugly win for the Riders, even though they held the lead throughout the whole game. Quarterback Darian Durant attempted 35 passes while completing 23 for 301 yards and one interception. The Riders’ record is 6-3 and their next game is against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl.

Other scores from Week 10 were: the B.C. Lions beat the Montreal Alouettes 38-17, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats beat the Toronto Argonauts 28-13 and the Calgary Stampeders hammered the Edmonton Eskimos 52-5.

The NFL season will begin soon and some players have a new home. Terrell Owens is with the Cincinnati Bengals; T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who was cut by Seattle, is now with the Baltimore Ravens; and Matt Leinart, who was cut by the Arizona Cardinals, is now with the Houston Texans. I think the New England Patriots will finish second in the AFC East behind the New York Jets, and it will be the Indianapolis Colts against the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XLV, which will be played at Cowboys Stadium.

In NCAA Football, the No. 4 Florida Gators beat the Miami (Ohio) Red Hawks 34-12. Despite the win, the Gators had some problems. The Gators’ record is 1-0 and their next game is against South Florida.

Other scores from Week 1 were: No. 13 Miami beat Florida A&M 45-0, Utah beat No. 15 Pittsburgh 27-24, No.9 Iowa hammered Eastern Illinois 37-7, No. 11 Oregon pounded New Mexico 72-0, No. 20 Florida State beat Samford 59-6 and No. 7 Oklahoma beat Utah State 31-24.

In NCAA Division 1AA football, the North Dakota Fighting Sioux lost 45-0 to Idaho. North Dakota’s record is 0-1 and their next game is against Northern Illinois.

As for North Dakota State, they beat the Kansas Jay Hawks 6-3 in a low-scoring game. North Dakota State’s record is 1-0.

In international rugby, the Qantas Wallabies beat the South Africa Springboks 41-39. This win by the Wallabies ensures that they keep the Mandela Challenge Plate. The Wallabies’ record is 5-4 and their next match is against the New Zealand All Blacks.

That’s all folks!
