Dylan Smith scored his second goal of the game as time expired to lift the Estevan Bruins to a 4-3 pre-season win over the Weyburn Red Wings.
The victory was the first for the Black and Gold in the pre-season. Estevan’s record is now 1-2.
Smith redirected a point shot to win the game. The scoreboard clock had zero seconds remaining as Smith and his teammates celebrated.
Rookie forward Cole Olson also scored twice for the Bruins – his second two-goal game of the pre-season.
Goaltender Shea Cooper played all 60 minutes, and stopped 22 of 25 shots.
The two teams were tied 1-1 after the first period. Estevan scored twice in the second, and outshot Weyburn 24-5 in the middle frame, to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Weyburn scored two quick goals late in the third to tie the game, but Smith dashed any hopes of a comeback with his goal.
Estevan hosts Yorkton tonight at 7:30 p.m., and they close out the pre-season Sunday at 6 p.m. at home against the Notre Dame Hounds.
