SE College’s Swing for Scholarships tournament is September 17

The Southeast Regional College (SERC) will host its 12th annual Swing for Scholarships golf tournament on Friday, September 17 at the Weyburn Golf Club.

The event raises funds each year for the college’s Centennial Merit Scholarship program, which provides scholarships to full-time students attending one of college’s campuses.

“This golf tournament is one of our major fundraisers and we are very grateful to all the participants and sponsors who support the college and our students,” said SERC president and CEO Craig Brown. “Our scholarships provide the financial means for many of our students to pursue post-secondary training in southeast Saskatchewan.”

The scholarships are administered on behalf of the college by the Southeast Education Foundation. Executive director Ian MacLennan works to build the number of scholarships and bursaries available to students, and he promotes the importance of local education and training.

As a result, the total amount of scholarships and bursaries awarded to students has grown to $40,000 annually.

The Centennial Merit Scholarships help leverage funding from the provincial government to assist SERC students, MacLennan said.

“The Centennial Merit Scholarship Program matches funds that are raised through local events, and because of this matching program, our Swing for Scholarships golf tournament becomes an event that many students can benefit from,” said MacLennan.

The Texas scramble tournament includes a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, 18 holes of golf, a steak supper, and prizes.

The registration deadline is September 13.
