Recent numbers from the SaskJobs website indicates that there are nearly 1,000 jobs available in Estevan – a disproportionately high number compared with the rest of the province.
There were 924 jobs available in Estevan as of September 1, the third-highest total in Saskatchewan.
Estevan accounts for about 14 per cent of the available jobs, even though the city has less than two per cent of Saskatchewan's population.
Saskatoon has the most jobs available with 1,827. Regina is second with 1,619. Estevan has more jobs than Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Swift Current and North Battleford, even though those cities have more people.
City manager Jim Puffalt said that affordable housing continues to pose the biggest hurdle for companies to fill their job vacancies.
