Rotary district governor visits Estevan

Rotary Club of Estevan members received encouragement, and an update on happenings within Rotary International, from district governor Harvey Hanson on Tuesday.

Hanson made his annual visit to the local Rotary club for their weekly luncheon meeting. He applauded Rotary for their contributions to the new Spectra Place, the Estevan and District Music Festival and local literacy programs, as well as for their contributions to such international programs as Shelterbox and Polio Plus.

Hanson asked the club to promote all of their accomplishments, so that everybody in the community knows about the efforts of local Rotarians.

“Tell your story,” said Hanson. “When you share the stories of our successes, when you talk about what you have done in the local community, and what you’ve done around the world, people make the connection with what you are doing and what we are doing.”

This year’s theme is “Building Communities and Bridging Continents.” Hanson said he believes it’s a great theme.

“As he (Rotary International president Ray Klinginsmith) was presenting the theme to us, he said ‘It is important to remember that Rotary is the spirit of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership to other peoples and other organizations,’” said Hanson.

Hanson also encouraged members of the local club to attend the district convention June 9 to 11 in Dauphin, Manitoba.
