The Labour Day long weekend brought an end to the season for the Souris Valley Museum and the Visitor Information Centre, which are located west of Estevan.
Kevin D'Souza, the tourism and marketing coordinator for the Estevan and District Board of Tourism, Trade and Commerce, said a lot of people from different locations visited the museum and information centre this year.
“Early in the summer, there was a trend where there was a lot of people from the States, or even Ontario, who were going to Alaska,” said D'Souza. “And later on, based on the feedback we got from our students, a lot of people were heading down to Montana.”
A good day brought about 30 to 35 visitors, D'Souza said. A lot of families stopped by, but their biggest demographics were travelling senior citizens and retired people.
Visitors were pleased with the visitor reception centre, D'Souza said, but many suggested that there should be a small play area for children. And due to the number of visitors en route to Alaska, D'Souza suggested they might want to have some promotional materials from that state.
