Football, faith and food will be served up during the annual Athletes in Action Roughrider steak supper on Sunday, September 19 at the Estevan Curling Club.
Linebacker Barrin Simpson and defensive tackle Keith Shologan will be the keynote speakers.
Simpson joined the Roughriders after previously playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the B.C. Lions. He won the CFL’s rookie of the year award in 2001, and he is a six-time CFL all-star who consistently ranks among the league leaders in tackles.
Simpson is an ordained minister and his nickname is the Minister of Defence.
Shologan, who hails from Spruce Grove, Alberta, was the Riders’ first-round selection in the 2008 CFL Draft. He joined the Riders late in the 2008 season.
Both players will share stories and highlights from their football careers, and discuss the importance that their Christian faith has on their lives.
Several other members of the Riders are expected to attend the supper.
The supper will be served at 5 p.m. An auction will follow.
Proceeds will go to Athletes in Action, an international Christian sports ministry. Former Estevan resident Barret Kropf is employed with Athletes in Action, and he is currently the Riders’ chaplain.
