Tories will host a rally against the long-gun registry

The Souris-Moose Mountain Conservative Association will host a cowboy steak supper and a rally to scrap the long gun registry on Saturday, September 11.

Souris-Moose Mountain MP Ed Komarnicki will be joined by two of his Conservative caucus colleagues: Garry Breitkreuz and Candice Hoeppner.

Breitkreuz, the MP for Yorkton-Melville, is one of the longest-serving MPs in Parliament. He was first elected in 1993, and he has long been an outspoken critic of the long-gun registry.

Hoeppner, the MP for Manitoba’s Portage-Lisgar constituency, was first elected to Parliament in 2008. She was the MP who introduced Bill C-391, the controversial legislation that called for Parliament to repeal the long-gun registry.

MPs have given two readings to the bill; third reading will happen when Parliament reconvenes in the fall.

A retirement presentation will be made to Len Gustafson. Gustafson was the MP for the Assiniboia/Souris-Moose Mountain constituency from 1979 to 1993, when he was appointed to the Senate. He remained in the Senate until his retirement in November of 2008.

Local band The Old Dogs will provide entertainment.

The event will take place at the Wylie Mitchell building. A cash bar will begin at 5:30 p.m., and supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.
