The Estevan Strippers claimed bronze in hockey at the recent 55-and-over Canada Games in Brockville, Ontario.
Estevan opened the tournament with a 2-2 tie against a team from York, Ontario. Tim Bangsund scored both goals for Estevan.
The Mercuries defeated the Strippers 6-2. Bangsund and Ron Robb scored for Estevan.
The Strippers finished the round robin with a loss and a tie, but it was still enough for second in the three-team pool.
The Strippers defeated the North West Territories 9-4 in the quarter-final. Bangsund had a hat trick. Bob Abernethy scored twice. Robb, Rick Rohatyn, Lyle Ballard and Peter Davies also scored.
Estevan lost 7-2 to Brampton in the semi-final. Terry Rohatyn had both of Estevan's goals.
Estevan defeated the Alberta Mercuries 4-3 in the bronze medal game. Alberta led 1-0 nine seconds into the game, and had leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but Estevan rallied for the win. Robb, Bangsund, Doug Curtis and Terry Rohatyn scored for Estevan.
The game was tied 3-3 after the first period, and it remained deadlocked until the 11-minute mark of the third period, when Rohatyn scored the game-winning goal.
Murray Gleim was in goal for the Strippers.
The 55-and-over games are held every two years. Estevan also won bronze in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, in 2006, and Moncton, New Brunswick, in 2008.
